Associate Director, Scientific & Medical Affairs

Redwood City, CA Medical Affairs Full Time

Adverum is looking for Associate Director, Scientific and Medical Affairs, to join our team in our Redwood City office. This position reports to the VP of Medical Affairs.  This person will be working with Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, R&D and other cross-functional teams.  The individual will be responsible for scientific communication and medical affairs activities including clinical trial, pre-launch and launch.

What you'll do:

  • Collaborating with the Medical affairs and clinical development in driving quality control and endorsement of: Scientific Communication Platforms, Lexicons, Disease-State Education materials, Program Slides, Data/Publication updates, Congress materials.
  • Serve as a key scientific lead, providing editorial, scientific and strategic expertise for assigned projects
  • Lead research focused data analysis and interpretation of clinical trial data (sub analysis, post hoc analysis) to leverage for future podium presentations and publications
  • Develop and implement strategic publication plans in collaboration with cross-functional TA teams (Medical, Real-World Evidence) including internal authors, R&D clinical leads, and study statisticians
  • Provide medical writing review and assistance for scientific communications (publications, medical affairs materials) as well as manage external vendors
  • Responsible for efficient review (and sometimes) preparation and delivery of high-quality publications, presentations, and abstracts; review all project-related content for accuracy and consistency
  • Serve as an extension of Field medical and attend conferences, cover scientific sessions and booth and serve as a scientific expert with external stakeholders, KOLs and healthcare professionals
  • Contribute to innovative communications including using interactive PDFs, infographics, podcasts, and novel digital media with agency support for internal and external collaborators
  • Facilitate discussions regarding dissemination of published data and contribute to the strategic scientific communications plan and platforms
  • Lead projects and deliver documents within process/timeline constraints

About you:

  • Terminal degree required (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent)
  • Ophthalmology or gene therapy experience highly desired
  • Minimum of two years of publication experience is preferred + 5-7 years industry experience
  • Self-starter and self-motivated
  • Demonstrated experience effectively presenting clinical/scientific information required
  • Ability to learn other disease states if necessary
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive collaborations with medical experts
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and associated hardware required
  • Must be a strong team player and effectively interface with internal departments including Clinical Development, Clinical Operations, Translational Research, Technical Operations, Medical Affairs, the office of the Chief Medical Officer
  • Must be willing to travel to company meetings, and to medical congresses
  • Exhibits excellent time management and able to work independently
  • Able to thrive as part of a team and when working independently
  • Must be well organized, polished, proactive, detail-oriented, mature, and have a professional demeanor
